Mad World
Last night, I was watching the latest Battlestar Galactica episode when a commercial for a video game came on. I usually fast forward, but this one caught me. It is for Gears of War. What a commercial!
The music is a piano and a voice, singing softly, very serene, yet with the video from the game showing, it is very haunting. Simply the best video game commercial I had ever seen.
I knew I had heard the song before, but this was a different version. Luckily I am using TIVO, so I went back and watched and listened again. I called my wife in to listen as well. It was Mad World by Tears for Fears, yet sung by someone else. I had to find out who.
Wikipedia to the rescue as it had a recent remake of Mad World by Gary Jules. And thanks to YouTube I was soon streaming the video from the song (not the commercial). From what I read, it is from the movie Donnie Darko.
Here is the song used in the commercial, but not the Gears of War commercial.
